According to Mr. Hoang Quang Phong, Vice Chairman of VCCI, Vietnamese businesses are facing many difficulties in applying energy-saving solutions due to a lack of information on effective energy use, financial and technical constraints, and limited capacity for energy consumption audits.

At the workshop “Cooperation to Promote Energy-Saving and Transformation Solutions towards Green and Sustainable Growth in Enterprises” organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on June 21 in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Hoang Quang Phong, Vice Chairman of VCCI, stated that enterprises in the industrial sector have rapid industrialization rates and significant potential for energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

However, businesses are encountering numerous difficulties in implementing energy-saving solutions due to a lack of information on effective energy use, financial and technical limitations, the capacity for energy consumption audits, and the ability to develop projects to access suitable investment funds. The Energy Service Company (ESCO) business model is relatively new and has not been widely adopted by many manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam.

VCCI is working with partners to implement effective solutions to support businesses, especially women-owned enterprises and those in the food processing and supporting industries, to use energy efficiently, save energy, and develop in a green and sustainable manner.

Mr. John Cotton, Senior Program Manager of the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP), believes that energy efficiency is an easy solution in the energy transition process. It provides immediate and cost-effective ways to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

By optimizing energy use in households, businesses, and industries, energy efficiency can lead to significant savings on energy bills, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and improve overall energy security.

Moreover, energy efficiency measures often promote job creation in various sectors, enhance technological innovation, and contribute to improving environmental health by reducing pollution.

VCCI and ETP will provide additional support to develop energy efficiency investment projects and help project owners access and negotiate with potential sponsors from both domestic and international markets.

"Today's networking event is one of the main activities of the project aimed at bringing businesses and potential sponsors together, supporting businesses to explore technical and financial solutions as well as discussing potential funding opportunities. The cooperation of all parties in energy transition and efficient energy use can create a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous future for Vietnam," emphasized Mr. John Cotton.

At the workshop, representatives from the project “Promoting Energy Saving and Efficient Use in the Supporting Industry and Food Processing Industry in Vietnam,” funded by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), provided updates on the positive results of the project.

Representatives from various businesses and experts shared solutions on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and low-carbon technology; they also shared information on initiatives in the field of renewable energy, energy-saving, and efficient use aimed at green and sustainable growth for businesses.

The speakers also offered several notes for businesses regarding market standards related to international goods and services; provided information on the greenhouse gas verification process and ISO 50001:2018 evaluation, and advised businesses on steps to inventory, verify, and validate greenhouse gas inventories.
