The visit took place in the context that Vietnam and Canada have witnessed very good economic relations. The two-way trade value reached US$6.17 billion in 2023. Canada is currently the 14th largest foreign investor in Vietnam with 247 projects and more than US$4.82 billion of registered capital.

At the meeting, Ambassador Shawn Steil expressed his gratitude to VCCI for the close cooperation with the Embassy in the past time, especially its preparations to welcome the Business Association in Canada in Hanoi in late March. The Business Association in Canada is one of the largest and most influential business associations in Canada as it engages CEOs of Canadian leading corporations.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of the bilateral relationship, especially in business and investment fields. Ambassador Shawn Steil and VCCI President Pham Tan Cong both emphasized the opportunities opened up from the meeting and cooperation between the two countries’ businesses and governments.

Both sides discussed specific solutions to promote bilateral economic cooperation and agreed to jointly organize fairs, exhibitions seminars and trade promotion activities to introduce Vietnamese and Canadian products and services to businesses and consumers.

At the same time, the two sides were also committed to creating favorable conditions for businesses from both countries to invest and do business in each other's markets. VCCI will coordinate with the Canadian Embassy to organize training courses and seminars on law and business investment environment for Vietnamese and Canadian businesses.

Additionally, the two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in potential fields such as renewable energy, information technology, agriculture, education and training.

Ambassador Shawn Steil highly appreciated VCCI's contributions to promoting Vietnam-Canada economic cooperation, saying that Canada expects to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in potential fields and pledges to support Vietnam in socioeconomic development.

VCCI President Pham Tan Cong affirmed that VCCI is always ready to cooperate with the Canadian Embassy and Canadian authorities to boost two-way economic cooperation. VCCI will continue to support Vietnamese businesses in accessing the Canadian market while facilitating Canadian companies to invest and do business in Vietnam.

The meeting is an important step to elevate Vietnam-Canada economic cooperation. VCCI and the Canadian Embassy believed that, with the efforts of the two countries' authorities and businesses, Vietnam-Canada economic relations will be further deepened in the coming time.
