As more and more Vietnamese entrepreneurs and businesses stand shoulder to shoulder with businesses around the world, the day when Vietnam stands shoulder to shoulder with the world's great powers will be closer.
In 2045, whether our country can become a developed industrial country with high income or not, can "stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's great powers" or not depends on the capacity of today's and future entrepreneurs and businesses.
The new confidence and inspiration of the business community was conveyed from the call of General Secretary To Lam to bring the country into “a new era, an era of national growth, development, prosperity and prosperity”, bringing our country “to catch up, advance together, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers”.
Motivation from policy
In the early days of the founding of the country, in a letter to the Vietnamese Industrial and Commercial Association (October 13, 1945), President Ho Chi Minh emphasized the important role of businessmen: “National affairs and family affairs always go hand in hand. A prosperous national economy means that the businesses of industrialists and merchants are prosperous”.
This vision has been steadfastly and consistently implemented by the Party and State through decades of Renovation, with policies to create a favorable business environment for business development. Looking back at the Renovation process, policies that increasingly put people and businesses at the center have created the driving force for our country's economy to develop strongly, continuously reaping achievements year after year higher than the previous year, admired by the whole world.
In the early stages of renovation (1986 - 1990), the average annual GDP growth rate was only 4.4%. In the 1991-1995 period, the average GDP increased by 8.2%/year.
In the 1996-2000 period, the impact of the regional financial crisis and consecutive natural disasters was felt, but the average GDP still increased by 7%/year.
In the 2001-2010 period, the average GDP increased by 7.26%.
In the 2011-2019 period, the average GDP increased by 6.3%/year.
Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, our country's GDP growth in 2020 dropped to 2.91% and only reached 2.58% in 2021.
Thanks to recovery policies, GDP increased sharply to 8.02% in 2022 and reached 5.05% in 2023.
General Secretary To Lam took a souvenir photo with a delegation of outstanding businessmen from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Vietnam Entrepreneurs' Day (October 13, 2004 - October 13, 2024) at the Presidential Palace on the afternoon of October 11, 2024.
From 1989 to 2023, Vietnam's GDP per capita increased 40 times. The changes and prosperity are easily seen in all regions and families, making Vietnam a typical story in the world in hunger eradication and poverty reduction. If in 1993, the poverty rate in Vietnam was more than 58%, by 2023, this figure was only 2.93%.
Over the past 20 years, thanks to the policies of the Party and the State, the team of entrepreneurs and enterprises has also developed very strongly, from 92,000 enterprises in 2004, Vietnam now has more than 930,000 enterprises, along with nearly 30,000 cooperatives and more than 5.1 million business households, becoming a core force in economic construction and development.
Most recently, Resolution 41-NQ/TW dated October 11, 2023 of the Politburo on building and promoting the role of entrepreneurs in the new period has created more momentum and been warmly welcomed by the business community.
In 2024, the Central Propaganda Department, the Central Economic Committee and VCCI coordinated to organize a National Conference to disseminate and implement Resolution 41/NQ-TW with over 206,000 delegates attending in person and online.
This is the first time a Resolution on entrepreneurs and enterprises has been implemented on such a large scale.
Up to now, the Government, ministries, branches and 63/63 provinces and cities have issued action programs to implement Resolution 41, demonstrating the determination and determination of the entire political system in promoting the development of entrepreneurs and enterprises in the new period.
The mark of 2024
The achievements of nearly 40 years of RENOVATION have opened up a new position and potential for the Vietnamese economy, ready for higher goals and aspirations.
In 2024, Vietnam's GDP will reach 476 billion USD, expected to rank 34th in the world, with GDP per capita reaching 4,700 USD, nearly reaching the upper middle income threshold of the world. Import-export turnover also reached nearly 800 billion USD for the first time, affirming Vietnam's trade position in the TOP 20 of the world.
Vietnam has also attracted about 40 billion USD of FDI capital, of which realized FDI capital reached 25 billion USD, ranking among the 15 countries attracting the largest foreign investment in the world. Notably, the positive recovery of the economy, with GDP growth reaching 7.09%, the highest in the world; Macroeconomic stability, inflation effectively controlled; major economic balances firmly secured.
Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation sets the goal that by 2045, science, technology, innovation and digital transformation will develop steadily, contributing to making Vietnam a developed country with high income. In 2024, many new policies of the Party and State continued to be issued, bringing a strong wind of reform, including many policies that VCCI proactively proposed or actively participated in commenting and building.
In 2024 alone, VCCI had 548 documents commenting on draft legal documents, organized 77 seminars, conferences and discussions on law and policy making with more than 8,000 businesses attending. In addition, VCCI also organized 654 training courses for more than 32,000 businesses.
The participation of VCCI and the business community and businesses has contributed to improving the quality of issued policy and legal documents, promoting their effectiveness when put into practice. In particular, the Land Law 2024, Housing Law and Real Estate Business Law 2023; policies to support the development of digital industry and green economy, policies to stimulate investment in high technology, environmental protection and sustainable development... have brought about an increasingly favorable business environment, creating conditions for businesses to operate and contribute to the development of the national economy.
Continuing the historical mission
Today, looking at the emerging economies that have joined the world's leading group, everywhere we see the emergence of a team of national enterprises standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading enterprises. Korea has Samsung, Hyundai, LG, SK... China has Tencent, Alibaba, Huawei, BYD,... Taiwan has TSMC, Foxconn, Pegatron...
In Vietnam, after nearly 40 years of dynamic innovation and development, promising enterprises are forming that will rise to global competition such as Viettel, FPT, Hoa Phat, Vingroup...
To have a Vietnam standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading powers in the new era, we need a team of Vietnamese entrepreneurs and enterprises standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading enterprises.
This is also the historical mission of Vietnamese entrepreneurs and enterprises. Resolution 41 of the Politburo has also identified the requirements and tasks of building and promoting a team of national enterprises in the new era.
In particular, in the last days of 2024, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, which is a strategic orientation leading Vietnamese entrepreneurs and businesses into a new era.
Previously, we were concerned about the story of Vietnamese enterprises not being able to make bolts and screws for FDI electronics enterprises, but today, we are happy to witness an FPT standing shoulder to shoulder with Nvidia to build an AI factory, aiming to turn Vietnam into a world center of artificial intelligence; there is a Viettel with modern military equipment; there is a VinFast "following behind and coming forward" with the automobile industry, producing electric vehicles for a green future; there is Hoa Phat ensuring the capacity to make rails for the "project of the century" high-speed railway that has just been approved by the National Assembly.
Vietnamese entrepreneurs and businesses today can produce chips, airplanes, missiles... affirming their ability to master technology and participate in the production of high-value products.
In a flat world where technology is becoming a shortcut for those who come after to surpass and rise to the leading group, Resolution 57, together with Resolution 41 of the Politburo, will be the foundation and driving force for the breakthrough development of businesses in 2025 and the coming years.
The General Secretary's call for a "New Era" along with the directive to "abandon the mindset of not being able to manage, then ban" and the requirement to "build an effective, dynamic administration, and a safe, transparent, low-cost, international-standard investment and business environment to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and enrichment" will certainly create a new wind, stimulating the aspirations of entrepreneurs and businesses to contribute to the country.
A new spring has come, the year of At Ty 2025 is expected with many fluctuations, challenges and new opportunities, we also see a new wave of economic innovation has appeared. Vietnamese businesses are having new opportunities and motivation to move forward, transform, and be ready to enter a new era.
We believe that as more and more Vietnamese entrepreneurs and businesses stand shoulder to shoulder with businesses around the world, the day Vietnam stands shoulder to shoulder with the world's great powers will be closer. In 2025, Vietnam will rise to become a developing country with an upper middle income, ready for a new journey, a journey of strong and prosperous development of the nation.
