Vietnam exports 20,900 tonnes of meat to 37 markets

The Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, citing data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, reported that in the first 11 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 20,900 tonnes of meat and meat products worth US$97.52 million, up 3.1 percent in volume and down 2.7 percent in value compared to the same period in 2023.

In the first 11 months of 2024, Vietnam’s meat and meat products were exported to two additional markets, bringing the total to 37 export markets. Among them, Hong Kong (China) remained the largest export market for Vietnamese meat and meat products, accounting for 48.33 percent of the total export volume and 60.94 percent of the total export value. Exports to this market reached 10,100 tonnes in volume and US$59.43 million in value, up 14.9 percent and 8.7 percent, respectively, compared to the same period in 2023.
Vietnam’s meat and meat products exported to Hong Kong (China) mainly consisted of frozen whole suckling pigs and frozen whole pigs.
In the first 11 months of 2024, the export of meat and meat products to several markets, including Belgium, France, Spain, Laos, and Singapore, grew significantly in both volume and value compared to the same period in 2023.
However, exports to some other markets, such as China, the US, Canada, Malaysia, Cambodia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Netherlands, experienced declines in both volume and value.
In the first 11 months of 2024, Vietnam exported the following categories of meat and meat products: fresh, chilled, or frozen pork, accounting for 41.1 percent of the total volume and 54.2 percent of the total value; other meat and edible meat offal (fresh, chilled, or frozen) from non-poultry animals, making up 32.5 percent of the total volume and 24.6 percent of the total value; meat and edible offal from poultry (fresh, chilled, or frozen), representing 23.8 percent of the total volume and 19.4 percent of the total value. Other types accounted for 2.6 percent of the total volume and 1.8 percent of the total value.
Fresh, chilled, or frozen pork remained the most exported category, with the volume reaching 8,600 tonnes and the value reaching US$52.89 million, down 13.1 percent in volume and 8.6 percent in value compared to the same period in 2023. Exports to Hong Kong (China) declined by 9.8 percent in volume and 7.6 percent in value year-on-year, while exports to Malaysia and Singapore continued to grow strongly./.
