The event was attended by Vietnamese Defence Minister Phan Van Giang and Lao Deputy Prime Minister cum Defence Minister Chansamone Chanyalath.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vietnamese defence minister congratulated Unitel for its recent achievements and thanked the Government of Laos, especially the Ministry of Defence, for facilitating the growth of Unitel.
Giang emphasised that Unitel is an example of economic cooperation and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, adding that Unitel’s success helps to enhance the position of Vietnam on the international stage.
He asked Unitel to continue innovating and pioneering in the provision of advanced telecommunications services and digital technologies to the people of Laos.
The Vietnamese defence minister affirmed that the two countries’ defence ministries always support and create favourable conditions for Unitel to operate more effectively while maintaining its position as the symbol of effective cooperation between the two sides.
On the occasion, Unitel was awarded Laos’ first-class Labour Order and Vietnam’s second-class Labour Order.
At the ceremony, Unitel officially launched 5G services, marking a major turning point in digital transformation in Laos. This is the third market in which Viettel has commercialised 5G in 2024.
