Mr. Chau Van Hoa, Director of Tra Vinh Province's Department of Planning and Investment, noted that strengthening the marine and green economies in line with the local identity is a top priority for Tra Vinh.

Ba Dong Beach has a fine white sand stretching over 10km.

Tra Vinh province, located between the Tien and Hau rivers in the south of the Mekong Delta, has a 65-kilometer coastline. It confronts the sea through two large estuaries, Cung Hau and Đinh An, which serve as international marine trade gateways.

A key province for the maritime economy

The province's administrative units, including Duyen Hai, Cau Ngang, Tra Cu, and Chau Thanh cities, are located along the shore, providing favorable conditions for farming and fishing.

Mr. Chau Van Hoa added that Tra Vinh keeps attracting investment in maritime economic sectors, including high-tech aquaculture and seafood processing projects, to improve the value chain and provide competitive products.

To date, the province has over 57,000 hectares dedicated to shrimp farming, with an annual fisheries and aquaculture production of over 220,800 tonnes of seafood. The province's average seafood production value presently surpasses VND 10 trillion, while aquaculture production value exceeds VND 300 million per hectare.

Potential for the marine sector

The government has picked Tra Vinh to develop economic zones, including Dinh An Economic Zone in Tra Cu district, Duyen Hai District, and Duyen Hai Town. This 39,020-hectare multi-sector coastal economic zone encompasses industry, trade, services, tourism, urban development, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Currently, 47 projects have a total registered capital of roughly VND 154.740 billion.

Mr. Chau Van Hoa believes that in order to achieve the province's development goals in the future, Tra Vinh will continue to focus on effectively implementing policies and strategies for sustainable marine economic development; making breakthroughs in certain marine economic sectors such as: renewable energy, clean energy; aquaculture, exploitation, and processing of seafood with high technology; maritime economy (shipping); services and tourism; industrial zones and clusters; building green; sustainable urban areas;…

For many years, Tra Vinh province was considered as a pioneer in the development of wind energy projects. Eight wind power projects have been added to the list of projects seeking investment under the Power Development Plan 8 (PDP8).

Mr. Chau Van Hoa stated, "With the existing potential and advantages, as well as the high determination of the governments at all levels, Tra Vinh aims to become a highly developed province in the Mekong Delta by 2050, with a modern coastal economic center and a clean energy hub for the Mekong Delta, making it an attractive destination."
