Provincial leaders award investment licenses and present congratulatory flowers to investors

The Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) 2023 of Tien Giang province strongly advanced, scoring 66.8 points to rank 29th out of 63 provinces and cities, climbing up 21 places from 2022. Could you please tell us what fundamental solutions helped achieve this impressive result?

This represents significant progress for the province to make its business environment better and its competitiveness stronger.

Provincial leaders focused on enhancing the role and responsibility of agency leaders. The exemplary and determined spirit from the leadership has spread the spirit of active and creative work to all civil servants.

At the same time, the province continued to further simplify administrative procedures, reduce the time of settling administrative records and minimize unnecessary procedures. Tien Giang provided more online public services and launched public administrative centers to make the settlement faster and more transparent.

Besides, the province increasingly applied information technology to administration and operation to enhance work performance.

At the same time, Tien Giang focused on raising the quality of public employees, and regularly hosted direct government-business dialogues to grasp difficulties faced by local firms and promptly seek solutions, hence creating trust and attracting more investors. 

As companies are facing various business difficulties, what specific solutions and activities has the province taken to accompany and develop companies?

Tien Giang province always believes that the business community is the core force and contributor of stronger socioeconomic development. Therefore, the province has adopted many practical solutions and activities to accompany and develop enterprises, with a focus on the following outstanding specific activities:

Building Plan 188/KH-UBND dated May 29, 2024 of the Provincial People's Committee on business development in Tien Giang province in 2024 - 2025 to provide maximum support for companies to restore production and reform business; effectively implementing business support and development policies; accelerating administrative procedure reform; strengthening business-government connections; facilitating the quick formation of new corporate entities, reducing corporate bankruptcies and increasing companies with innovation and digital transformation activities, and boosting production and business capacity and sustainable development.

Every year, the province organizes government-business meetings through various channels to promptly clear obstacles against businesses and investors, provide maximum support for them to restore production and sees the removal of barriers and hardships for businesses as a top priority. In 2024, the province hosted three meetings and dialogues between the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and enterprises in east, west and central regions of the province.

Furthermore, to recognize and honor their contributions and encourage businesses and entrepreneurs to work hard to deal with difficulties and challenges and assist the province to obtain success socioeconomic development, on Vietnam Entrepreneurs' Day (October 13), Tien Giang province hosts a business meeting and commends and rewards businesses and businesspeople for their excellent performances, respectful compliance with Party and State policies, and their successful business development. At the 20th anniversary celebration of Vietnam Entrepreneurs' Day in 2024, the province praised and honored 59 outstanding entrepreneurs and 70 well performing businesses in the province.

In the future, Tien Giang believes that Resolution 41-NQ/TW will continue to be the guiding principle for building and developing a stronger entrepreneur force, featured with better work performance, investment and business operations in many fields with many advanced business models in line with the Tien Giang socioeconomic development plans and strategies.

Towards the 50th anniversary of the Southern Liberation and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2025), Tien Giang is striving to obtain the highest goals of promoting economic growth in 2024 and 2025. Could you tell us what important goals Tien Giang expects to achieve?

Due to the severe impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, in the first two years of the current administration term, some goals set at the beginning of the term remain low. But with high political determination, the province is determined to get the highest socioeconomic goals in 2024 and 2025, hence creating a premise for implementing breakthrough goals for the next term.

The Provincial People's Committee developed a detailed plan for implementation of the Tien Giang Provincial Planning for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050. Through the practical direction and administration of the central government and the Prime Minister, Tien Giang province has drawn many valuable lessons to tap local potential strengths linked with the “Tien Giang - The far downstream of the Mekong” image. The province has mobilized diverse resources for socioeconomic development, especially investment capital for economic and technical infrastructure, and created a truly dynamic, decisive and supportive investment environment for investors.

The province has assigned the highest priority to economic growth and increased investment for development; resolutely implemented solutions to accelerate and make breakthroughs in public investment disbursement and three national target programs; sped up the construction progress of projects invested by the province and the central government; diversified markets and export products and developed domestic markets; robustly developed manufacturing and processing, digital economy, green economy, circular economy, emerging industries; and renewed traditional growth drivers and strongly promoted new growth drivers.

Tien Giang has focused on reviewing and perfecting institutions, mechanisms and policies, reducing administrative procedures, removing obstacles in business, and creating an open and favorable business environment; improved the quality of human resources; bolstered the development and application of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation and circular economy; actively and promptly adopted plans to prevent, combat, rescue and address subsequences of natural disasters; strengthened resource management and environmental protection; developed sustainable agriculture and rural areas; enhanced the effectiveness of foreign affairs and international integration; and effectively provided information, created social consensus, and effectively built regional connectivity.

Economic growth goals are associated with comprehensive cultural and social development. Improving people's lives is a consistent policy of the Party and people of Tien Giang province which continues to improve and build a streamlined, effective and efficient apparatus and maintain political security, order and social safety.

What message does the People's Committee of Tien Giang Province wish to convey to the business community and entrepreneurs, particularly in terms of promoting trust among investors in the coming time?

Over the past 50 years, with the strong expansion of the business community (currently the province has more than 6,000 active businesses), businesses in Tien Giang province have continuously enhanced their performance, created jobs and income for workers, demonstrated their role as a main force of providing production resources and making products and services for society, and boosted local socioeconomic development.

In the first nine months of 2024, Tien Giang province had nearly 690 new corporate establishments with a total registered capital of more than VND4 trillion and permitted 203 existing companies to hike their registered capital by nearly VND5 trillion. The province also saw a 4.4-fold increase in resumed businesses in the period.  The locality also licensed 11 new investment projects and allowed nine existing projects to increase their total investment fund to nearly VND14 trillion, a year-on-year growth of 116.3%. Therefore, Tien Giang is not only a place where businesses develop strongly but also an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors at the downstream end of the Mekong River.

Believing that businesses are the main actor and driving force for socioeconomic development, in the coming time, Tien Giang is pledged to further support investors and ensure a transparent investment and business environment; streamline administrative procedures to be faster, easier and more convenient; launch the single-window mechanism and facilitate the business community to develop sustainably and effectively.

The province continues to “roll out the red carpet to invite and welcome investors”, especially projects to develop industrial parks and agricultural production areas, with a focus placed on industrial parks in Tan Phuoc, Go Cong and Tan Phu Dong districts. Hopefully, Tien Giang - the downstream end of the Mekong River - will continue to be a safe, potential and friendly investment environment and a reliable destination for businesses and investors in the coming time.
