VOV.VN - Relevant agencies and local authorities in the central province of Thua Thien Hue have undergone urgent measures in a bid to prevent the spread of African swine fever (ASF) throughout the locality.
To date, the ASF epidemic has been discovered in pig flocks at nearly 1,756 pig-farming households, 379 hamlets, and 81 communes in the districts of Phong Dien, Quang Dien, Phu Vang, Phu Loc, A Luoi, Huong Thuy, Huong Tra commune, and Hue city.
The results of the epidemic have forced a total of 8,070 pigs to be culled with Phu Vang district being the hardest hit by the epidemic after losing more than 2,900 pigs in the cull.
In a bid to combat the epidemic, the provincial Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-department has provided more than 50,000 litres of chemicals, 377 tons of lime powder, and set up 63 quarantine checkpoints to strictly monitor the transportation of pigs and pork products throughout the region.
The province has so far provided financial support for affected households to cull their pigs at a price of between VND25,000 and VND43,000 per kilo under the decision made by the provincial People’s Committee.
Nguyen Van Hung, director of the provincial Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-Department said that local authorities have supplied additional chemicals for local residents to disinfect and sterilize their contaminated breeding facilities three times per week, in addition to high risk zones close to affected areas once a day.
He added that further quarantine stations are to be set up to prevent the spread of the epidemic.
