VOV.VN - The central province of Quang Binh has recorded an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in Minh Hoa district and declared an ASF epidemic throughout the entire locality.

Tran Cong Tam, director of the provincial Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-department, said the outbreak of ASF was discovered at a pig-farming household located in Ba Nuong hamlet, Xuan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district.

At the pig farm, a total of 108 pigs showed symptoms of suffering from the ASF virus and were reported dead. Local veterinary workers took samples from the contaminated pig-farming household with the results testing positive for the ASF virus.

The provincial Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-department, working in co-ordination with the Minh Hoa district People’s Committee, culled and buried the pig flock and sprayed disinfectants throughout the breeding area.

In addition, efforts have been made to raise awareness among residents about cleaning up their pig farms in order to prevent the further spread of ASF.

In a bid to cope with the ASF epidemic, Quang Binh province has co-ordinated with relevant agencies in the locality to cull all infected pigs and set up quarantine checkpoints that strictly monitor the transportation of pigs and pork products through the region, Mr Tam said.
