Recovery efforts
Ha Giang province has long been renowned for its majestic natural landscapes and the unique culture of its 19 ethnic minorities. Famous destinations such as the Dong Van Karst Plateau, Ma Pi Leng Pass and Quan Ba have become major attractions for tourists. However, Typhoon Yagi caused significant damage, particularly to the transportation infrastructure, severely impacting key tourism areas.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province, said that the province has swiftly addressed the damages to ensure safety in tourist areas. The transportation system has been repaired, and tourism services have been upgraded, ready to welcome back visitors. In addition to recovery efforts, Ha Giang has also achieved significant international recognition, such as being named "Top Emerging Destination in Asia 2023" and "Top Cultural Destination in Asia 2024," underscoring the province's strong development potential.
Enhancing promotion and developing tourism products
To attract tourists back after the disaster, Ha Giang has focused on promoting its image and improving the quality of tourism products. Currently, the province boasts 982 accommodation facilities, an increase of 108 compared to the same period last year. This progress is crucial in enhancing the service capacity for visitors, especially as the number of tourists continues to rise each year. In the first nine months of 2024, Ha Giang welcomed 2.45 million visitors, including 290,000 international tourists, representing a 14.3% increase over the previous year. This reflects the province's strong appeal to domestic and foreign travelers, thanks to effective promotional campaigns.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, emphasized at the conference that Ha Giang needs to leverage its cultural and natural landscape potential to attract tourists. He emphasized that the province has opportunities to develop distinctive tourism products, such as cultural tourism, nature exploration, and experiences of local ethnic life. He also pointed out that continued investment in infrastructure and the creation of high-end tourism products are essential to meet the demands of international travelers.
To meet this demand, Ha Giang has implemented robust promotional campaigns through social media platforms and organized promotional events in major tourism markets. The campaign titled “Ha Giang - Asia's Leading Cultural Destination” has garnered significant attention from tourists, promising to usher in a new wave of international visitors to the province.
In promoting tourism, Ha Giang focuses not only on developing popular destinations but also on preserving traditional cultural values. Hai affirmed that the province would use culture as a foundation for tourism development and employ tourism as a tool to preserve and elevate the values of historical sites and the culture of ethnic minorities. This approach is critical for sustainable tourism development while maintaining the unique cultural identity of Ha Giang province.
With the efforts from government authorities, businesses, and local communities, Ha Giang province is gradually reclaiming its position as a safe and attractive destination after the challenges posed by the natural disaster. The province hopes to attract an increasing number of visitors, particularly international tourists, due to its unique cultural values and stunning natural landscapes.
