Nearly 100 Panasonic employees in cooperation with the local authorities and local people will plant 13,000 trees donated by Panasonic Vietnam Group companies as part of the initiative.

These include resin trees, Burma padauk and Magnolia trees. In addition, 500 Burmese grape trees were planted on at Ban Ma village and Tien Son village to create greenery and promote sustainable tourism.

Tree planting is the main activity of Eco Relay scheme, a global initiative of Panasonic to inspire employees to be “sustainable ambassadors.” The initiative aims to convey the message of environment protection and the inspiration of sustainable development to communities.

Oka Hiroyuki, director of Panasonic Vietnam said, “Environment has been always put at the core of Panasonic’s activities for over 50 years in Vietnam. That’s why we have implemented the tree planting programme for 10 consecutive years.

"We aim to offer a meaningful opportunity for our employees to join hands and contribute to a green Vietnam and spread the message of wellness and sustainable development."

The "Panasonic for a Green Vietnam” programme started in 2013. This year, the company chose to plant in the natural reserve of Xuan Lien, Thanh Hoa.

The area plays a significant role in the upper forested watershed of the Chu River. Covering an area of ​​about 27,700 hectares, it is home to natural forests, rivers, and lakes that play the role of protecting water sources for domestic use and irrigation for millions of people in the central province of Thanh Hoa and surrounding areas. The area also maintains groundwater, prevents erosion and landslides, and reduces floods.

It also has a high level of biodiversity, with the habitat of many rare and precious plant and animal species listed in the Vietnam Red Book. In addition, the reserve impressive scenery such as Cua Dat Lake.

Besides this Panasonic Eco relay programme, the company has just completed planting over 360,000 trees in 13 provinces nationwide, together with the Ministry of Environment and Natural resources, making it the biggest tree-planting project in Vietnam.

In addition to planting trees, Panasonic's employees have joined in various activities to support Xuan Lien Nature Reserve and neighbouring areas, such as the eco-learning class for students, and sustainable tourism workshop for residents.
