VOV.VN -Approximately 3,800 packets of smuggled foreign cigarettes have been confiscated by border guards in An Giang province, according to Major Huynh Thanh Tam, head of the Vinh Nguon border station.

Border guards initially spotted a group moving suspiciously from Cambodia into Vietnam at 22:15 on June 4.

The group were quickly identified as smugglers attempting to bring goods into the country. Upon noticing the police, the suspects fled towards the Cambodian border, leaving their wares behind in the process.

Border guards were able to seize to goods and a search of the haul revealed 3,800 packs of cigarettes bearing the labels of foreign brands with a total value of VND50 million.
