Illegal Chinese fugitive put into quarantine in HCM City

The Ho Chi Minh City Centre for Disease Control and Prevention on July 6 stated that it has placed a Chinese national into quarantine after this citizen was detected attempting to illegally enter the southern city.

The Chinese citizen fled native Tianjin to Cambodia on May 2, travelled to Ha Tien City of Kien Giang on July 5 and then took a bus to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in District 10 of Ho Chi Minh City the following day to apply for asylum. 

Upon being discovered in the southern metropolis, relevant municipal agencies put the Chinese national into quarantine and collected samples for a novel coronavirus test. The cultural centre was completely disinfected immediately following the discovery of the fugitive’s movements.

The latest incident marks the 14th individual Ho Chi Minh City has detected illegally entering the country from Cambodia. The Ho Chi Minh City Centre for Disease Control and Prevention therefore warned that people should remain highly vigilant in order to guard against cases of illegal entry.

The centre also requested that border localities swiftly strengthen communication and co-ordinate alongside border guards to take preventative measures to stop people illegally entering the country from Cambodia.
