VOV.VN - Over 67,000 cases of dengue fever were recorded nationwide, including three deaths until the end of May, three times more than the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health forecast that the number of dengue fever cases will continue to rise in the near future due to the impact of the weather, unless drastic measures are taken.
The capital city of Hanoi has recorded more than 470 dengue fever cases since the beginning of the year.
The Ministry has asked residents to take steps to prevent the further spread of the disease such as cleaning their living environment, spraying mosquitos repellents, and using mosquitos nets while sleeping.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kinh, Director of the National Hospital of Tropical Disease, said in previous years, cases of dengue fever often increased sharply in areas that see a lengthy rainy season with high temperatures.
This year, the disease has been occurring all year round with the number of dengue fever cases being reported in both children and adults.
The Ministry of Health has mapped out plans for new treatments that are suitable for different strains of the dengue fever.
Residents have been recommended to visit medical centres for timely check-ups and treatment if any symptoms of the disease, said Prof. Dr. Kinh.
