HCMC’s Hoc Mon wholesale market is set to reopen soon as a transportation hub for fresh food as the city begins to gradually resume economic activities.

The HCMC Department of Industry and Trade has green-lighted the reopening and a final approval from district authorities is awaited, Nguyen Tien Dung, the director of the market, said.

There would be only 12 vegetable and fruit stalls to start with, and if things go smoothly, people would start selling pork next month, he said.

Only registered vehicles can enter the market, and have to leave within an hour.

All vendors and market managers need to be fully vaccinated and test Covid-19 negative, and social distancing will be in place.

A stall can hire a maximum of two loaders.

Hoc Mon has been shut down since June 28 after cases of Covid-19 were detected there.

It is one of three wholesale markets in HCMC.

Another of the trio, Binh Dien, opened with limited capacity on Sep. 7.

HCMC recorded over 6,300 new Covid-19 cases Tuesday.
