The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) on January 18 held a get-together to celebrate 71 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and China. (January 18). 

Addressing the function, HUFO Chairman Duong Quan Ha highlighted the fine development of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China, which was founded and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam and Chairman Mao Zedong of China as well as many other senior leaders of the two countries.

This relationship has been lifted to a level of the comprehensive strategic partnership which has developed strongly in recent times, bringing mutual benefits to the two peoples, said Ha.

Over the past years, he continued, the two countries’ leaders have made many reciprocal visits and online exchanges to strengthen the traditional relationship, considering it a valuable spiritual asset of the two peoples.

Ha said that HUFO and Ho Chi Minh City’s Vietnam - China Friendship Association have worked closely with the Chinese Consulate General and the Chinese business community in the city over the years to carry out cultural exchanges and charitable activities, aimed at promoting friendship and mutual understanding between the people of HCM City and localities of China.

Wu Jun, Consul General of China in HCM City, emphasized that over the past 71 years, the Sino-Vietnamese relationship has become an exemplary model of the relationship among socialist countries. Bilateral cooperation has been strengthened in all fields, from politics to economics and people-to-people diplomacy.

In particular, he said 2020 saw the two countries join hands in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and support each other in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, while increasing the efficiency of cooperation in trade and investment.

He wished the upcoming 13th national congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam a great success and vowed to work hard to foster the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
