VOV.VN - A number of new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) have been discovered in pig-farming households in Vinh Loi district in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu.

Nguyen Quang Duong, secretary of  Bac Lieu province's party committee works with leaders of Vinh Loi district on the ASF epidemic.

A total of three outbreaks of ASF have been detected in Bac Lieu province with reports from households in the communes of Chau Thoi and Chau Hung A in Vinh Loi district, resulting in nearly 200 pigs being culled.

Furthermore, the ASF epidemic has also been detected in two households in Long Thanh commune of Vinh Loi district with approximately 60 pigs showing signs of the disease.

According to the leaders of Bac Lieu province’s Animal Husbandry and Veterinary sub-department, the provincial breeding centre has also reared over 100 pigs, some of which have shown symptoms of the ASF epidemic. As a result, relevant units have taken the samples from the contaminated pig farms for testing at laboratories.

In order to cope with the complicated developments of ASF, Nguyen Quang Duong, secretary of the provincial Party committee, has requested that localities take drastic measures to prevent the further spread of the disease.

He also called on relevant agencies at all levels to deploy urgent measures aimed at stamping out the epidemic and preventing it from spreading to neighbouring areas.
