Exports sets a record US$ 400 billion

By the end of 2024, Vietnam’s total export turnover increased by 14.3% year-on-year to US$ 405.53 billion, the General Department of Vietnam Customs reports.

Export turnover of computer accounts for high rate

In recent years, computers, electronic products and components has continuously topped export turnover.

In 2024, the export turnover of the commodity group saw a year-on-year increase of 18% to US$ 72.58 billion, accounting for 18% of the country’s total export turnover.

Export turnover of computers, electronic products and components in 2024 to the United States, EU, Hong Kong (China), and South Korea surged, while exports to China dropped.

Specifically, exports to the US reached US$23.2 billion, up 36.3%; China at US$12.64 billion, down 3.1%; EU at US$ 9.9 billion, up 63.7%; Hong Kong at US$8.16 billion USD, up 47.3%; South Korea at US$5.73 billion, up 18.6%...

The export turnover of phones of all kinds and components ranked second with US$53.89 billion, up 2.9% over the previous year.

Phones of all kinds and components were mainly exported to markets such as China at US$15.44 billion, down 8.5%; the US at US$ 9.82 billion, up 24.3%; the EU at 6.28 billion, down 12.8% compared to the previous year.

Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts ranked third rose 21% to US$52.19 billion compared to the previous year.

The US is the largest export market for the group of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts, reaching 22.05 billion USD, up 21.2%. The EU ranked second with US$7.36 billion, up 23.7%. In total, the export turnover of these two markets accounted for 56% of the country's export turnover of the commodity group.

Export turnover of agricultural products make breakthrough

Additionally, in 2024, other 5 export groups reached export turnover of US$10 billion or more, increasing by 1 commodity group compared to 2023.

Seafood is the new commodity group reaching billion-dollar export turnover. In the year, the export turnover of the commodity grew 11.9% to US$ 10.04 billion compared to the previous year.

Vietnam's seafood is mainly exported to major markets such as: the US at US$ 1.83 billion, up 17.6%; China at US$ 1.73 billion, up 29.4%; Japan at US$ 1.53 billion, up 1.1%; the EU at US$1.04 billion, up 9.4%...

Export turnover of four commodity groups reaching billions of dollars included textiles and garments at US$37.04 billion, up 11.2%; footwear at US$ 22.87 billion, up 13%; wood and wooden products at US$ 16.28 billion, up 20.9%; means of transport and spare parts at US$15.07 billion, up 6.4%.

Another bright spot in exports in 2024 is the breakthrough of the agricultural sector. In addition to the 2 "tens of billions of dollars" commodity groups of wood and wooden products; and seafood, the agricultural sector has many “billion-dollar” export commodity groups, including vegetables, cashews, rice, coffee, pepper, etc.

The commodity groups saw strong growth such as vegetables and fruits at US$7.15 billion, up 27.6% or US$1.55 billion year-on-year. Of that, durian exports reached 3 US$ billion, up 42.5% or US$893 million year-on-year, accounting for 42% of the total export turnover of vegetables and fruits of the whole country.

Vietnam's vegetables and fruits were mainly exported to China at US$4.63 billion, up 27.3% compared to the previous year, accounting for 65% of the total export turnover of the group of goods of the whole country.

Rice exports in 2024 recorded 9.03 million tons, up 11.1% compared to the previous year and the total turnover reached US$5.67 billion, up 21.2%.

Vietnam's rice was mainly exported to the ASEAN market at 6.43 million tons, accounting for 71% of the country's total rice exports, increasing by 31% compared to the previous year.

Pepper exports in 2024 recorded an impressive growth in turnover. The volume of exported pepper of the whole year reached only 249 thousand tons, down 6.2% compared to five previous years, however, the average export price of this group of products surged 53.9%, so the total turnover reached US$1.31 billion, up 44.4%.

Vietnam's pepper was mainly exported to the US market with 73.72 thousand tons, up 33.9% and the EU market with 48.63 thousand tons, up 35.3%. Exports to the Chinese market reached only 10.1 thousand tons, down 80.3%.
