At the signing ceremony for the MoU on June 29, Kim Hyo Tae, general director at Doosan Vina, said, "This agreement will go a long way to contribute to Vietnam's net-zero emission goal by 2050 and will be another stepping stone for Doosan Vina to penetrate the renewable energy market."

"We are shifting our focus towards environmental protection, which is considered a growth driver for the future and Vietnam has ample wind and solar resources, so there is tremendous potential to develop renewable energy, especially offshore wind power," he added.

Seiji Kawamura, general manager of the overseas power department (Asia-Pacific) at Marubeni Corporation, said, "Offshore wind power plays a vital role in our company strategy, and we have 50 years of experience in Vietnam’s power industry."

As per the conditions laid out in the MoU, the two sides will conduct a feasibility study to explore the collaborative opportunities in Vietnam.

Doosan Vina has a plan to produce monopiles to be used in offshore wind power foundations and other components for offshore wind farms at its 100-hectare industrial complex in Dung Quat Economic Zone.

Meanwhile, Marubeni is looking for partnership opportunities with other capable companies in Vietnam to contribute to the development of offshore wind farms in the country.

Doosan and Marubeni are strategic partners in the energy sector in the Asia-Pacific region. The two companies have previously developed the Nghi Son 2 build-operate-transfer thermal power plant in the central province of Thanh Hoa, with Doosan being the general contractor and Marubenie being a member of a consortium comprising three investors, the other two being South Korea’s Korea Electric Power Corporation, and Japan’s Tohoku Electric Power Company.
