According to the revised planning scheme, the airport’s Terminal 1 is designed to handle 21 million passengers a year by 2030 while the capacity of Terminal 2 will not change.

By 2050, the airport needs to handle 36 million passengers and 100,000 tonnes of cargo annually. Terminal 2 will be renovated and merged with Terminal 1, forming a new international Terminal 1 capable of serving 24 million passengers a year.

The adjustment will help to deal with the existing overload of the airport. It was initially designed to receive 5.5 million passengers a year by 2020 and eight million by 2030.

By 2019, the airport had already served over 10 million passengers and even during the last two years, the airport received over 3.3 million.
