Border guards operating in Kon Tum province successfully arrested a Vietnamese man after discovering him attempting to smuggle a huge quantity of firecrackers from Laos to Vietnam on November 12.

According to initial reports, police spotted two Vietnamese suspects as they were in the process of carrying two large bags through Po Y commune in Ngoc Hoi district at 5:30.

Upon noticing the police, both men attempted to flee. Following a chase of the suspects, the police were able to catch one man and obtain with his bag.

The police forces conducted a search of the suspect’s bag, in which they found various firecrackers weighing 26kg.

Close to the scene, another bag containing 40kg of firecrackers was also discovered.

After being questioned, the suspect was identified as 51-year-old Vu Ngoc Ha of Ky Lam commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province.

The incident remains under investigation.
