The manufacturing and processing sector received $2.65 billion, accounting for 82.7% of the total, followed by real estate with $223.5 million (7%), the General Statistics Office (GSO), under the Ministry of Finance, reported on Friday.
Vietnam recorded $27.62 billion in implemented FDI capital for the whole 2025, up 9% year-on-year and marking the highest level in five years.
Registered FDI capital reached $6.03 billion in the two-month period, down 12.6% from a year earlier. At the GSO's calculations, registered capital comprises capital for newly-registered projects, additional capital for existing projects, and capital for stake acquisitions.
Of the $6.03 billion in registered FDI capital, $3.54 billion was newly-registered for 620 new projects, up 61.5% and up 20.2% year-on-year, respectively.
The manufacturing and processing sector remained the top recipient of newly-registered capital, recording $2.63 billion, or 74.3% of the total.
Among 44 countries and territories with newly licensed projects in Vietnam in the two months, South Korea was the largest investor with $1.34 billion, accounting for 37.8%, followed by Singapore ($1.1 billion, 31.1%) and mainland China ($522.8 million, 14.8%).
About $1.99 billion (down 52.3% year-on-year) was additional capital for 180 operating projects in the year. Foreign investors also made 492 capital contributions/share purchases worth $499.5 million during Jan-Feb, down 5.7% from a year earlier.
Capital contributions/share purchases in the manufacturing and processing sector recorded $244.7 billion in value, making up the largest portion of 49%.
If newly registered capital and additional capital for existing projects are combined, South Korea still holds the top spot with $1.92 billion. Singapore held the second place with $1.71 billion.
Thai Nguyen province rose to the top with total newly registered and adjusted capital of $1.65 billion in the two-month period. With $809.6 million, Bac Ninh ranked the second, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with nearly $600 million and Hanoi with $582 million.
