A total of six students from schools across Hanoi brought home three gold and three silver medals during the International Junior Science Olympiad 2019 (IJSO 2019) which took place in Qatar from December 2 to December 12, according to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

This year’s event represents the ninth year that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has been assigned with the task of selecting a national team to participate in the IJSO.

The winners of the competition’s gold medals include Dam Gia Bao, Nguyen Tri Duc, and Cao Thuy An, all of whom are 10th graders from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

Elsewhere, the silver medals went to Dang Minh Trung and Nguyen Hoang Trung, both of whom are 10th graders from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, along with Nguyen Dinh Hieu from Nguyen Hue High School.

The students participating in the Olympiad must complete a total of three tests, including a multiple choice examination, a theoretical examination, and a practical examination with each test lasting for 240 minutes and including questions regarding physics, chemistry, and biology.

The IJSO is a prestigious international examination designed by the IJSO Committee which is made up of leading professors and scientists from around the world.

The excellent performance of the Hanoi-based students during the IJSO 2019 Exam affirms the Party and State’s correct guidelines with regard to educational reform and international integration with a focus on nurturing young Vietnamese talent.

This year’s occasion was co-organised by the Ministry of Education of Qatar and the Qatar University, attracting the participation of a total of 326 candidates from 70 countries and territories globally.

The first IJSO test took place back in 2004 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and has since been held each year in a variety of different countries with the aim of encouraging students to gain practical knowledge of science in the world.

The exam is designed to be taken by students aged 15 years old and provides an ideal platform in which countries can share education experiences as a means of developing the quality of education and boosting education co-operation on a global scale.
