The Health Ministry said Wednesday it would collaborate for human trials for a French Covid-19 drug, and later acquire its technology.
XAV-19 developed by biotech firm Xenothera has already undergone the first and second phases of human trials, proving safe and effective against Covid, neutralizing the coronavirus and reducing inflammation.
The health ministry said it would help conduct the third phase of human trials.
Odile Duvaux, cofounder and CEO of Xenothera, said her company is ready to collaborate with the ministry and transfer production technologies.
Human trials for XAV-19 are also being done in France, Greece, Spain, and some other European countries.
Vietnam has constantly been looking for more Covid drugs and treatments around the world. Some drugs like molnupiravir are undergoing human trials in Vietnam and others like remdesivir are already used to treat severe cases in hospitals.
The country has had 559,347 Covid cases in the fourth wave that began in late April.
"Medicine package for Covid-19 patients" campaign aims to support patients self-isolating at home. Each donation worth VND380,000 ($16.65) can help buy medicine for one patient.
