A decision issued on Tuesday by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on a national program to develop math from now through 2030 calls for its continued development through research, application and education and making the subject an integral part of science, technology and socio-economic development.

It incorporates further goals like having two universities in the world’s top 400 by 2030, double the country’s number of publications listed in 2010-20 in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), which covers more than 8,500 scientific journals across 150 disciplines, and have around 400 PhDs in math, applied math and statistics, with half of them having at least two publications listed in the SCIE.

It also calls for doubling the number of foreign scientists coming to Vietnam for scientific exchanges during the last decade.

The program seeks to achieve these goals by boosting math education and awareness, encouraging research and fostering talents in the fields of math.

The Ministry of Education and Training will oversee the program, and the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics will run it.
