VOV.VN - The Party, State and people of Vietnam will make all-out efforts to strengthen and deepen traditional, special friendship with Cuba, has said Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and head of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation during her meetings with Cuban leaders.

Mai, who is also Chairwoman of the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association, led a high-ranking Party delegation to make a working visit Cuba and attend the 29th International Book Fair of Havana from February 4 – 8.

During her visit, Mai had meetings with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power Esteban Lazo Hernández, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba José Ramón Machado Ventura, and Secretary General of the Cuban Women’s Federation Teresa María Amarelle Boué.

At the meetings, she affirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance of supporting Cuban’s revolutionary cause and struggle for an immediate and unconditional end to the economic, trade and financial embargo against the Caribbean nation.

Cuban leaders thanked Vietnam for its participation in the book fair which kick-started a broad range of activities in the time to come to mark the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam – Cuba diplomatic ties (December 2, 1960 – 2020).

They reiterated the Cuba Party, State and people’s recognition of importance to the relations with Vietnam and wish to further boost the long-standing ties and all-around cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples.

They congratulated the Party, State and people of Vietnam on the successful implementation of resolutions issued by the CPV’s 12th National Congress and hoped for the success of the next congress, slated for 2021.

In her remarks at the launch of the International Book Fair of Havana on February 6, Mai hailed the Cuban Party and State for organising such a significant cultural event in the time of hardship.

The presence of Vietnam as a guest of honour is a chance for both nations to deepen the mutual understanding and intensify cross-cultural exchange, and foster the bilateral ties.

She and Cuban senior leaders cut the ribbon launching Vietnam’s pavilion at the fair which features more than 700 book titles and 2,000 publications in different languages, including Vietnamese, Spanish, and English.
