The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, UN Women, and the Australian Embassy in Hanoi on December 6 opened a workshop to review Vietnam’s 10 year implementation of the national strategy on gender equality and to plan its strategy for the next decade.

Pham Ngoc Tien, Head of the Gender Equality Department of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said "Rapid on-going changes in Vietnam and the world have created both opportunities and challenges that need to be addressed, including the 4th Industrial Revolution, climate change, natural disasters, non-traditional security issues, wealth inequality, labor immigration, violence, trafficking and abuse against children and women. These problems require more comprehensive and aggressive solutions to achieve sustainable goals on gender equality."

Elisa Fernandez, UN Women Head of Office in Vietnam, said with new challenges ahead, Vietnam is urged to adopt more practical policies and timely actions to maintain what it has achieved and at the same time find solutions for newly-emerging problems.

In Vietnam, 2020 will be the final year of the implementation of its first National Strategy on Gender Equality and the government will develop a new gender equality strategy for the period of 2021-2030.
