Once the upgrade completed, the airport, located in Con Dao Island of the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the airport will meet the 4C standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), meaning it can receive modern Airbus 320 aircraft.
Con Dao airport was first built by the French in 1947 and upgraded in 2003 with designed capacity of 400,000 passengers annually. However, it can only accommodate ATR 72 and other small aircraft.
As the island, about 230 km from Ho Chi Minh City, has become increasingly attractive destination to visitors, it is necessary to expand the airport’s capacity to meet growing demand for air travel.
Today Con Dao is an ideal attraction for those interested in discovering Vietnamese history and enjoying the pristine beauty and escape from the daily bustle life. Con Dao has long and white sandy beaches, a beautiful ocean world with colorful coral reefs, and primary rain forests with rich flora and fauna.
Tourists can either fly to Con Dao from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Ha Noi or travel by high-speed boat from Soc Trang and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
