UNIQLO Vietnam never stop evolving to serve Vietnamese people

UNIQLO representatives said that the success of the Japanese brand lies not only in its simple fashion products with outstanding quality, but also in sustainable values for the environment, community, and society that it is pursuing. In particular, developing local talent is one of the highlights of its business activities in Vietnam.

With the orientation of building Vietnamese personnel to become global leaders of the group, UNIQLO has successfully organised recruitment programmes for young potential managers called UNIQLO Managers Candidate. As of now, there are around 1,000 employees working at UNIQLO Vietnam, and more than 75 per cent of store managers at UNIQLO locations nationwide, and two area managers, are Vietnamese.

Additionally, UNIQLO is also known as a brand with high responsibility to the community. The company has cooperated with the Center for Disability and Development DRD to support and create equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities, helping them quickly integrate and contribute through their work. The second season of recruitment for people with disabilities is being implemented with the support of numerous communities and customers.

UNIQLO also accompanied the government to contribute to Vietnam’s fight against the recent pandemic. Together with parent company Fast Retailing Vietnam, the brand donated VND11 billion ($478,000) to the nation’s COVID-19 vaccine fund; and donated more than 600,000 masks and 45,000 AIRism and DRY-EX products with quick-drying functionality to support the medical team and volunteers on the frontline.

When the central region was severely damaged by floods, UNIQLO also donated 2,000 products to support poor and disadvantaged households in districts that suffered the most damage in the provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, and Quang Binh.

Meanwhile, the Japanese brand cooperates with the Business Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Products to support the promotion of agricultural products and hold “green fairs” at stores, as a way to energise local farmers to boost production and develop after several tough years.

With a business philosophy towards sustainable development, UNIQLO Vietnam has taken action to realise the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 per cent. The proportion of recycled materials in the product structure will also increase to 50 per cent by 2030. This is part of the brand’s effort to spread its LifeWear philosophy and demonstrate a long-term commitment to realising its sustainable development goals.

These goals have already been around for some time. Early in 2021, the company launched the RE.UNIQLO programme, a global initiative that is now being implemented in Vietnam in cooperation with the Hope Foundation, with the aim of giving new life to UNIQLO products and encouraging customers to begin sustainable consumption habits.

As of May this year, RE.UNIQLO has donated 15,000 products collected from the programme to children and adults in disadvantaged areas near the border in Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Son La, and Binh Phuoc provinces.

Respect for local cultural values is also reflected through the design and shopping space at UNIQLO stores. In particular, the UTme! collection, with motifs imprinted with the people and rhythm of life in Vietnam, is the product of a cooperation process between the Japanese brand and young Vietnamese artists. The Vietnamese culture is imprinted through the unique bamboo architecture inside large-and-superscale stores such as UNIQLO Dong Khoi, UNIQLO Vincom Pham Ngoc Thach, and UNIQLO Vincom Landmark 81.

With continuous and persistent contributions in the journey of creating a sustainable community, the company has increasingly won the patronage and trust of Vietnamese consumers, creating momentum for it to develop and grow more quickly.

Since launching its first store in Ho Chi Minh City, UNIQLO has owned a retail network with 17 stores across Hanoi, Haiphong, and Ho Chi Minh City, and online stores on its website. It is expected to open a new store in Binh Duong province later this year, while continuing to spread the LifeWear philosophy and work to improve the quality of life for the Vietnamese community.
