The second cultural festival of the Muong, the second largest ethnic group in Vietnam, is scheduled to take place in the northcentral province of Thanh Hoa from December 10 to December 12.

The event is poised to see the participation of artisans, actors, actresses, and athletes from six provinces and cities of Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Son La, Phu Tho, and Binh Phuoc.

It will also feature special guests, with a mass art troupe from Houaphanh province in Laos being invited to put on a performance.

The festival will see a wide range of cultural, sports, and tourism activities get underway, including mass art performances, a fashion show featuring an array of traditional costumes, Gong performances by members of the Muong ethnic minority group, and an introduction on how to weave handicrafts.

Visitors will be given the opportunity to participate in folk games, including tug-of-war, “con”, a type of colourful fabric ball, throwing, and stick pushing.

Organisers will also put on trips for delegates to visit eco-tourism villages throughout Thanh Hoa province, helping to promote local culture and boost tourism activities in the locality.

The first such festival was held in Hoa Binh province back in 2007. The second event, originally scheduled from October 29 to October 31, was postponed until December 10 due to organisational issues.
