Many areas throughout the Mekong Delta region were affected by rising tides, in addition to floodwater from the Mekong river, on October 18, with further flooding expected in the coming two days.

High tides leave numerous streets in the Mekong Delta region submerged.

A street situated in the downtown area of Can Tho city is left inundated with flooding on the night of October 18.


Tran Viet Truong, chairman of the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee, joins with other leaders from the Southern city to check on the current situation in Ninh Kieu district.

Can Tho city’s station marks high tide on Hau river at a peak of 2.15 metres on October 18, 0.15 metres higher than the level required for flood warning level 3 to be issued, with this level set to rise over the next two days. In addition, more tides are expected to hit the region in November and December.

It is anticipated that the situation will worsen traffic jams during rush hour, therefore creating tremendous challenges for commuters.
