Topping the list is the VND85.6 trillion ($3.25 billion) Ben Thanh-Can Gio high-speed railway, proposed by VinSpeed, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s largest listed firm Vingroup.
Scheduled to break ground on December 19, the 53-kilometer route will run from downtown Ben Thanh Station to the Can Gio coastal urban area. Designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h, the line is expected to be completed in 2028 and will mark one of Vietnam’s most ambitious urban rail developments to date.
The city will also begin work on Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh-Tham Luong) in January 2026, with a total investment exceeding VND47.8 trillion ($1.81 billion).
Three other megaprojects, collectively worth more than VND117 trillion ($4.44 billion), are slated to break ground in early 2026 under the public–private partnership (PPP) model.
Specifically, the VND92 trillion ($3.49 billion) Rach Chiec Sports Complex, proposed by Sun Group, will span 187 hectares. The project aims to develop a modern sports complex, creating a landmark and enhancing Ho Chi Minh City's status as a sports and entertainment hub in Southeast Asia. It is expected to be completed in 2030.
Can Gio Bridge (VND12.4 trillion or $470.32 million) will stretch 7.3 kilometers between Binh Khanh and Nha Be communes. The bridge will replace the overloaded Binh Khanh ferry. Once finished in 2028, it will cut travel time between HCMC and Can Gio to roughly one hour.
The Phu My 2 Bridge project has a total investment of VND13 trillion ($493.08 million). The 6.3-kilometer bridge will link southern HCMC with Dong Nai province’s Nhon Trach area. It is expected to start at Nguyen Huu Tho street in HCMC and connect to Lien Cang Road in Dong Nai, with completion also slated for 2028.
Masterise Group has been tasked with preparing the investment proposal for Phu My 2 Bridge for submission to authorities’ in-principle approval.
Beyond these five headline projects, HCMC plans to launch or inaugurate 12 additional infrastructure and public-service developments, underscoring a major push to improve connectivity and urban services ahead of the National Party Congress, scheduled for January 19-25, 2026
HCMC, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, and Binh Duong province were merged in July to form the new HCMC.
