Despite an ongoing Covid-19 social distancing order, large numbers of vehicles were still spotted in the capital Tuesday morning.

Hanoi recently extended its ongoing Covid-19 social distancing order amid a rising number of new infections, now expected to last until Aug. 23. The capital on Sunday also issued new requirements for those wishing to go out, but scrapped them a day later following numerous complaints.

Chu Ngoc Anh, chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, said the city's surveillance camera system still observed large numbers of vehicles on the street each day.

The heavy rain rendered a Covid-19 checkpoint on Nguyen Chi Thanh temporarily inactive. Previously, gridlocks were often found at such checkpoints.

At around 7:15 a.m., lines of vehicles spanning around 100 meters were seen in front of a Covid-19 checkpoint of Thanh Tri District.
