Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer BE Semiconductor Industries N.V. (Besi) is considering a $1 billion investment in Vietnam as part of its broader global expansion in semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure.

In its 2025 annual update, the company said it plans to allocate about $100 billion globally toward semiconductor fabrication facilities and related supply chain development, including $1 billion in Vietnam.

Other major investment destinations outlined by Besi include Taiwan with $26.1 billion, the U.S. with $24.5 billion, mainland China with $6.3 billion, and South Korea with $9.1 billion.

For Vietnam specifically, Besi said it plans to begin building a new production facility in 2026, with initial capital expenditure estimated at €10-12 million.

The company has gradually expanded its presence in Vietnam. By the end of 2025, Besi employed 60 staff in Vietnam, up from 49 employees in 2024. The firm also committed to using renewable energy to power its local operations.

Besi first entered Vietnam in November 2023, when the Saigon Hi-Tech Park in Ho Chi Minh City granted the company an investment certificate for a project worth nearly $5 million with a 50-year operating term.

In February 2024, Besi inaugurated a 2,000-square-meter factory at the park. During phase one, the facility focuses on manufacturing molds and advanced components used in chip packaging equipment. Phase two, expected within two to three years, is expected to expand production to include machines used in semiconductor chip packaging.

In July 2024, Besi submitted plans to expand phase two with an additional $42 million. The expansion proposal covers a 1.98-hectare site designated for manufacturing equipment used in semiconductor production lines.

Headquartered in Duiven, Besi operates seven manufacturing and R&D facilities across Asia and Europe, along with 10 sales and service offices in Europe, Asia, and North America. The company specializes in developing, manufacturing and servicing semiconductor assembly equipment, particularly technologies used in advanced chip packaging.

The planned investment reflects growing interest from global semiconductor suppliers in Vietnam as an emerging hub in the chip supply chain, supported by expanding high-tech infrastructure and government incentives for the electronics industry.

Last year, Vietnam issued a national semiconductor industry development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, along with a national human resources development program for semiconductors and a list of 11 strategic technologies and products, including chips.
