Thai people from all walks of life will join hands in declaring a fight against corruption in an annual national event to observe the 2019 United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day, December 9.

The Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission of Thailand, in cooperation with various sectors, will hold the national anti-corruption event on 9 December 2019 between 07.00 and 12.00 hr at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi province.

The event will take place under the theme "Zero Tolerance” in order to encourage the people and society to no longer tolerate corruption and to be aware of its harmful effects. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will lead members of all sectors to declare a fight against corruption in this event.

In the anti-corruption campaign, the people have been urged to wear white shirts as a symbol to show their strength in the fight against corruption.

The United Nations General Assembly designated December 9 as International Anti-Corruption Day and urged all states and competent regional economic integration organizations to sign and ratify the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) to ensure its rapid entry into force.

The UNCAC is the most comprehensive anti-corruption convention, entering into force in December 2005. Member states are obligated to take anti-corruption measures in public and private sectors.

Corruption is cited as a serious crime that can undermine social and economic development in all societies. No country, region or community is immune. The fight against corruption has been included in Thailand’s national agenda.
