Vietnam exported a total of 955,000 tonnes of coffee with a value of US$1.609 billion during the first half of the year, representing a rise of 3.7% in volume and 2.5% in value compared to the same period from last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

June alone saw the country ship 140,000 tonnes of coffee worth US$237 million abroad,
marking an increase of 7.5% in volume and 7.4% in value from the previous month. 

Figures released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade indicate that the average export price of coffee during June suffered a decrease of 0.02% to US$1,693 per tonne when compared with the previous month, causing the average export price during the first half of the year to fall by 1.2% to approximately US$1,685 per tonne. 

In the global market, the price of Robusta coffee during the reviewed period increased in comparison to the end of May, although the upward trend is only expected to take place over the short term. 

June saw domestic coffee prices continue to decline in line with that of the world market, hovering between approximately VND30,000 and VND32,500 (between US$1.29 and US$1.39) per kilo. 

At present, domestic coffee prices have dropped to a record low level, with local farmers not wishing to sell their produce in anticipation of higher prices ahead. This therefore makes it difficult for traders and exporters to purchase coffee for export.
