The project will be located on an area of about 11 hectares at the Solid Waste Treatment Complex in Nam Trach commune, processing 600 tons of household waste per day and having an electricity generation capacity of 15 MW.
Quang Tri authorities recently had a meeting with company representatives to discuss the project which aims to reduce landfill waste, treat industrial and landfill wastewater, and supply power to the local grid.
An EverBright Environment representative said the proposal will use the company’s proprietary incineration technology and meet environmental safety standards.
The firm asked the province for permission to conduct feasibility studies and access investment incentives.
Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri People’s Committee, said the province agreed in principle to the study but requested the investor to apply advanced, internationally recognized technology and choose a site between the province’s two main urban areas, away from residential zones.
Local authorities pledged administrative procedure support and assigned the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment to guide the investor through the next steps.
EverBright Environment, a major Chinese waste management and environmental energy firm, already operates two similar projects in Vietnam.
In 2024, it launched the 11,234-hectare Phu Son waste-to-energy plant in Hue city, with a total investment of VND1.7 trillion ($64.63 million). The project has a capacity of processing 600 tons of waste per day and produce 12 MW of electricity.
Its first project, the Can Tho waste-to-energy plant in Can Tho city, began operations in 2018, processing 400 tons of waste daily and generating about 150,000 kWh of power per day, with an investment of over VND1 trillion.
