CPV's staff collecting marine waste

Currently, the marine environment everywhere is seriously polluted by waste and Vietnam is considered the country that accounts for the fourth largest amount of waste discharged into the sea – with a volume of about 280,000-730,000 tonnes per year.

Pollution from waste in coastal waters in Vietnam is extremely alarming and it has been hindering the sustainable development of Vietnam's marine ecosystems. Cleaning the sea and raising awareness of environmental protection among employees and the community is one of the activities C.P.Vietnam (CPV) has been implementing for many years.

On the occasion of the International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 16 every year, while also implementing the project from the mother company CPF Restore the Ocean on September 24, CPV cooperated with the Youth Social Work Center on the Coastal Cleanup project at Long Hai and Phuoc Hai beaches.

These beaches are beautiful and attract many tourists, but in recent years, waste from people's daily lives and from the sea has made this place one of the hot spots for environmental pollution. That is why local authorities are implementing communication activities to raise public awareness and linking with organisations to run marine cleaning activities to say no to plastic waste.

Participating in the collection of waste along the coast were the chairman of Phuoc Hai town Nguyen Van Canh, CPV assistant vice president Worawit Arunraksa, and 130 of CPV's employees in business units including the feed factory, food processing factory, shrimp farm, poultry farm, and head office staff.

They participated with employees from other companies such as Down, Virtour, Standard Charter, Callaway, and Bollore & Gameloft to demonstrate their spirit and awareness of environmental protection to reduce marine waste.

The total amount of waste that CPV members have collected stands at 876kg, which was classified by the participating members and the organiser into categories such as reusable, non-biodegradable, and dangerous waste, allowing it to be assigned to the appropriate waste treatment company.

This year's Coastal Cleanup activity has been very positive and is reflected by the almost 600 participants who took part and the 1.7 tonnes of marine waste that was obtained.

To spread the spirit of environmental protection, CPV will implement communication activities to raise public awareness, and that of its employees, to say no to plastic waste.

CPV operates in the agriculture and food industry with a vision to provide high-quality and nutritional products and use raw materials and natural resources without affecting the environment through the integration of United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals into production and business activities.

Environmental protection issues are at the heart of CPV's companies.

Environmental protection activities not only invest in improving technology, techniques, and the use of alternative energy in production to reduce emissions, but the company also works closely with associations, social organisations, and communities on afforestation (planting trees to protect the environment) while continuing to prevent the increase of plastic waste and single-use plastic products.
