MoU signing ceremony between Autodesk and the Institute of Construction Economics

This MoU is a strategic next step following the 2017 MoU between Autodesk, the global leader in software for architects, builders, engineers, designers, manufacturers, 3D artists, production team; and the Ministry of Construction (MoC), which contributed significantly to the Approval of the Roadmap for applying Building Information Modeling (BIM) in construction that the prime minister issued in March 2023.

Therefore, the two sides have agreed to carry out a larger scale of cooperation, accelerating the national BIM roadmap to speed up the implementation and integration of technology in all construction work processes.

"The MoU will explore the effectiveness of the BIM programme and project implementation in improving construction productivity at the national level, and explore BIM and GIS harmonisation, the use of technologies such as Internet of Things and AI with BIM for research and development," said Serene Sia, Autodesk's managing director ASEAN.

In the next three years, Autodesk will work with the MoC to develop BIM guidelines and training modules to speed up the implementation and adoption of BIM.

In addition, Autodesk will update training programmes and provide certificates for the transfer of completed documents in the construction industry. These collaborative initiatives will promote digital transformation and BIM adoption in Vietnam.

The Institute of Construction Economics will support Autodesk to study and deploy BIM solutions in accordance with the needs of Vietnam's market.

At the signing ceremony, Le Van Cu – president of the Institute of Construction Economics said, "Autodesk is one of the companies that help the MoC to raise awareness of BIM, share the experiences of some countries that have successfully applied BIM, providing documents and instructions for BIM adoption and supplying equipment and software copyrights of BIM. We hope that by this agreement, Autodesk will continue to support access to make the application of BIM in Vietnam more effectively."

Autodesk and MoC to boost digital transformation

The MoU will help the construction sector adapt to new ways of working and address issues that have dogged the industry for years, such as fragmented ecosystems and over-reliance on on-site manual labour.

They hope that BIM and new technologies will contribute to the vibrant construction industry in the country and become an inspiration for innovation, as well as open up opportunities to access advanced technologies such as BIM Generative Design and Digital Twins to optimise resources, achieve economic and productivity efficiency, and create sustainable impacts.

Nicolas Mangon, Autodesk vice president, said this MoU is an important step in promoting BIM adoption in the Vietnamese construction industry. BIM is an important technology that can help contractors, consultants, and investors optimise efficiency, reduce costs and improve construction quality.

"With more than 40 years of experience in the industry around the world, Autodesk would like to become a trusted partner of the government, agencies, and Vietnamese businesses to improve the application and deployment capacity of BIM, as well as strengthen the development of Vietnam's construction," Mangon said.

In addition, during the cooperation process, the two sides will actively monitor, ensure progress, evaluate the suitability of all planned programmes, evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing programmes, and participate in regional and global programmes and events to stay informed about industry trends, connect with colleagues and contribute to the strategic growth of the construction industry.
