According to Tran Thanh Vu, Deputy Director of the An Giang Provincial Department of Construction, the Long Xuyen-Rach Gia connecting road is attracting significant public attention. This is a Group A project, playing a strategic role in reducing congestion on National Highway No.80 and promoting multimodal transport.

The project has a total length of approximately 53km, with a planned width of up to 80m. According to the proposal, the road will be invested in two phases: Phase 1 will construct 4 lanes for automobiles and 2 lanes for non-motorised vehicles; Phase 2 will complete 8 lanes for automobiles and 2 lanes for non-motorized vehicles, and will also study the integration of urban rail according to the TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) model.

Currently, the demand for freight transport and travel between Long Xuyen and Rach Gia is increasing. Recently, the An Giang Provincial Department of Construction approved an estimated cost of over 5.7 billion VND to carry out surveys and prepare a pre-feasibility study report, creating an important basis for submitting the investment policy to the competent authorities for consideration and decision.

Accordingly, the Rach Gia-Long Xuyen connecting road will start at the Lac Hong intersection (Rach Gia ward) and end at the Long Xuyen bypass. The total investment for the project is expected to be approximately 16 trillion VND, including construction and land acquisition costs.

The project will directly connect to Rach Gia Airport and Rach Gia Passenger Port, while also facilitating the development of Phu Quoc island tourism routes linked with spiritual tourism in Chau Doc and Nui Cam; expanding urban space and creating land for development along both sides of the route.
