Under the agreement, Toshiba will supply electrical and electronic components for potential use in Dat Bike’s future generations of electric motorcycles, the companies said at a signing ceremony held this month, attended by a Toshiba delegation led by Hashimoto Kazutoshi, managing director of Toshiba Electronics Asia.
The partnership comes as Vietnam’s electric motorcycle market is expanding, driving demand for semiconductors, electronic systems and energy-management technologies for two-wheelers.
Dat Bike said the relationship is intended to go beyond a conventional supplier-customer model, combining its product development capabilities and understanding of local consumers with Toshiba’s expertise in semiconductors and electrical-electronic technologies.
The cooperation could help Dat Bike develop electric motorcycles with improved efficiency, reliability and technology integration, while enhancing vehicle performance, energy management and operational stability, the Vietnamese startup said.
Following the signing ceremony, Toshiba’s delegation visited Dat Bike’s manufacturing facility to assess its production capabilities and quality standards.
The Vietnamese company said sustainable growth would depend not only on expanding its retail network and increasing vehicle sales, but also on building a stronger technology base and supply chain.
Dat Bike is, therefore, developing a core supply chain ahead of its next stage of expansion, with a focus on building long-term relationships with established global technology and component suppliers, it said.
In March, Dat Bike raised $4 million from Thien Viet Securities in a Series B funding round, aiming to support expansion in production and distribution. The investment will be used to scale up Dat Bike’s manufacturing capacity, strengthen its supply chain, and upgrade its distribution network.
The capital will also be allocated to research and development as the company works to enhance product performance and prepare for regional expansion.
Vietnam is now among the world’s largest electric motorcycle markets, behind China and India, according to Motorcycles Data (MD). More than 500,000 electric motorcycles were sold in the first seven months of 2026, accounting for nearly 28% of total motorcycle sales in Vietnam, according to Motorcycles Data (MD). Sales jumped more than 97% from the same period last year.
Overall, Vietnam remains one of the world's largest motorcycle markets. Since 2023, annual two-wheeler sales by major manufacturers, including electric models, have fluctuated between 2.5 million and 2.65 million units, around 20% below their historical peak.
Local electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast, under conglomerate Vingroup (HoSE: VIC) has emerged as the market leader, selling more than 400,000 electric two-wheelers in Vietnam last year.
