VCCI Vice Chairman Nguyen Quang Vinh meets with Ms. Monica Hardy Whaley, President of the National Center for APEC (NCAPEC) of the United States, and NCAPEC members.

On July 15 in Hanoi, VCCI Vice Chairman Nguyen Quang Vinh held a working session with Ms. Monica Hardy Whaley, President of the U.S. National Center for APEC (NCAPEC), to discuss preparations for APEC Year 2027 and the APEC CEO Summit in Vietnam.

At the meeting, VCCI Vice Chairman Nguyen Quang Vinh highly appreciated NCAPEC’s longstanding support for APEC economies, as well as the proactive efforts of the U.S. side in assisting Vietnam in its preparations for APEC 2027.

The VCCI Vice Chairman said that, following Vietnam’s successful hosting of APEC in 2006 and 2017, the country is urgently carrying out preparations for APEC 2027 with the involvement of the entire political system.

Accordingly, the Government has established the APEC National Committee with specialized sub-committees, which hold monthly meetings to review preparation progress. Alongside upgrading transport infrastructure, facilities, and services in the host locality, Vietnam is also developing an agenda that reflects development priorities for the new phase.

As the agency assigned by the Government to lead three key business community activities within the framework of APEC 2027, VCCI will be responsible for organizing meetings of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), the ABAC Dialogue with APEC Economic Leaders, and, in particular, the APEC CEO Summit — a premier forum bringing together senior executives from the world’s leading corporations.

VCCI Vice Chairman Nguyen Quang Vinh said that experience from previous APEC hosting years serves as an important foundation; however, the current global context has undergone significant changes, with geopolitical uncertainties, the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, green transformation, and the growing demand for sustainable supply chains.

Therefore, the APEC 2027 agenda needs to reflect emerging trends and align with Vietnam’s development priorities for the coming decade.

The VCCI Vice Chairman also emphasized that Vietnam is pursuing the goal of double-digit economic growth, promoting the role of the private sector, advancing innovation, accelerating digital transformation, and developing high-quality human resources. These will also be key topics that VCCI will study and incorporate into the APEC CEO Summit and other business forums.

In addition, VCCI hopes to hear more perspectives from the international business community, particularly major U.S. corporations in fields such as technology, finance, aviation, energy, semiconductors, and the green economy, in order to develop a practical agenda and formulate policy recommendations for APEC leaders.

For NCAPEC, Ms. Monica Hardy Whaley shared that the organization, together with the U.S. Secretariat, has more than 20 years of experience supporting APEC host economies in organizing the APEC CEO Summit and currently maintains a rich collection of resources and organizational experience from previous summits.

Ms. Monica Hardy Whaley also highly appreciated Vietnam’s and VCCI’s preparations for APEC 2027, affirming that NCAPEC is ready to share experience, support connections with international speakers, provide advice on organizational arrangements, and accompany VCCI throughout the preparation and implementation of business-related activities during APEC Year 2027.

Beyond the APEC CEO Summit, NCAPEC expressed its desire to engage more deeply in business activities taking place throughout 2027.

The two sides agreed to strengthen coordination in the coming period to encourage leading U.S. corporations and enterprises to send senior executives to attend the APEC CEO Summit 2027; explore the organization of a U.S. business delegation visit to Vietnam on the occasion of APEC; and jointly implement policy dialogues, investment and business networking activities, and business meetings between the two countries’ enterprises within the framework of the conference.

VCCI Vice Chairman Nguyen Quang Vinh expressed his hope that, with the support of NCAPEC and international partners, APEC CEO Summit 2027 will not only build on the success of previous summits but also contribute to promoting the image of a dynamic and innovative Vietnam, ready to enter a new phase of development with an increasingly important role in regional value chains and the Asia-Pacific economy.
