The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and the family solemnly announce with deep sorrow:
Comrade Doan Duy Thanh (birth name Doan Huu Tong, aliases: Thanh Duy, Thanh Linh, Thanh Tong), born on September 15, 1929; native place: Cong Hoa Commune, Kim Thanh District, Hai Duong Province (former), now Lai Khe Commune, Hai Phong City; permanent residence at No. 216 Doi Can Street, Ngoc Ha Ward, Hanoi; joined the revolution in July 1945; admitted to the Party on October 15, 1946; Member of the Party Central Committee in the 5th and 6th tenures; Member of the National Assembly in the 7th and 8th tenures; former Party Secretary and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hai Phong City; Minister of Foreign Trade, Minister of External Economic Relations (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade); President of the Central Institute for Economic Management; President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (now the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry – VCCI); Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now the Government).
After a period of serious illness, despite devoted care and treatment by the Party, State, a collective of professors, doctors, and his family, due to advanced age and declining health, he passed away at 6:43 a.m. on February 6, 2026 (the 19th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake) at the 108 Central Military Hospital, at the age of 97.
Throughout his revolutionary career, Comrade Doan Duy Thanh made many contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the First-Class Independence Order, the 80-year Party Membership Badge, and many other noble orders and medals by the Party and State.
To express deep condolences and acknowledge his contributions and achievements, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee have decided to organize the funeral of Comrade Doan Duy Thanh with State funeral rites.

WORKING CAREER
- 1945: Participated in the seizure of power in Kim Thanh District; Secretary of the Salvation Youth Union of Tuong Vu Commune; Executive Committee member of the District Youth Union in charge of one sub-area of the district.
- 1946: Secretary of the Viet Minh organization at commune level; Viet Minh cadre at district level; Secretary of the Party cell of Cong Hoa Commune; cadre of the Kim Thanh District Party Committee.
- 1947 – 1948: Cadre of the District Party Committee; in November 1947, District Party Committee member in charge of eight communes along Road No. 5.
- 1949 – June 1950: Member of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee in charge of organization and inspection; in May 1949, assigned to mass mobilization work as Head of the Viet Minh organization at district level.
- 1950: Secretary of the Ngo Quyen District Party Committee and concurrently Chairman of the District Resistance Administrative Committee.
- From September 1951 – November 1953: Arrested and imprisoned at Doan Xa, Hai Phong City, and later exiled to Con Dao prison; remained active and served as a Party committee member within prisons.
- From November 1953: After release from prison, assigned by the Hai Phong Party Committee to undergo training, continue Party activities, work as a research cadre at the Party Committee Office, and Secretary of the Party cell of the Party Committee Office.
- From February 1958 – April 1958: Deputy Director of Hai Phong General Trading Company; Acting Director and Director of the Wholesale Trading Company; Director of the Textile and Garment Company; Secretary of the Company Party Committee for three terms.
- From December 1961: Deputy Director of the Handicraft Cooperative Union; Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Handicrafts. In July 1964, became Acting Director and Director of the Department of Handicrafts and Secretary of the Department Party Committee.
- 1968: Member of the City Party Committee; Head of the Finance and Trade Department of the City Party Committee.

FUNERAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMRADE DOAN DUY THANH
The Party Central Committee Secretariat has decided to establish the State Funeral Committee consisting of 25 members, headed by Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, as Chairman of the Committee.
The coffin of Comrade Doan Duy Thanh will lie in state at the National Funeral House, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi.
The visitation ceremony will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., February 12, 2026 (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake).
The memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m., February 12, 2026.
The cremation ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the Ninh Hai Crematorium, Hai Phong City.
The burial ceremony will take place at 9:45 a.m., February 13, 2026 (the 26th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake) at the family cemetery in Tuong Vu Hamlet, Lai Khe Commune, Hai Phong City.
