On the morning of February 9, 2026, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Bui Trung Nghia received and worked with Ms. Rashmi Saluja, President of the Global Trade and Technology Council of India (GTTCI), to discuss the possibility of enhancing cooperation between the two sides in the fields of trade, healthcare, medical tourism, and business connectivity.
Vice President of VCCI Bui Trung Nghia and GTTCI President Rashmi Saluja.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Bui Trung Thuong, Vietnam’s Trade Counsellor in India, along with representatives of relevant units and members of the Indian delegation.
At the meeting, Ms. Rashmi Saluja introduced an overview of GTTCI’s investment activities in India and many other countries. According to her, the organization participates in multiple sectors beyond defense, such as energy, mining, infrastructure, healthcare, and health services. Among these, healthcare is one of the key focuses, including pharmaceutical equipment manufacturing, hospital infrastructure development, health insurance, and indigenous medical solutions such as Ayurveda to reduce treatment costs and make healthcare services more accessible to the public.
In addition, GTTCI is also involved in developing the sports industry, from apparel, organizing tournaments, producing content for television and online platforms (OTT), to building “sports city” models combined with sports medicine and genetic research. The organization currently has a network of direct offices in 20 countries and cooperation in nearly 200 markets, providing consulting services, partner connectivity, and investment support.
Referring to Vietnam, Ms. Saluja noted that tourist flows between the two countries are increasing, with Vietnam being one of the destinations attracting the interest of Indian tourists. According to her, if organized systematically, this tourist flow could expand into value-added activities such as tourism combined with healthcare and medical treatment. GTTCI is ready to support business connectivity, organize working delegations, and coordinate in developing cooperation plans in the short, medium, and long term.
In response, Vice President Bui Trung Nghia highly appreciated the information and proposals from the Indian side, while stating that Vietnam wishes to further promote bilateral trade relations, especially in expanding supply sources and seeking additional partners from the Indian market.
Regarding medical tourism, Vice President Bui Trung Nghia emphasized that this issue needs to be approached cautiously. He noted that while conventional tourism can be widely implemented, medical treatment services are directly related to health and personal safety, therefore requiring strict procedures and high professional standards.
According to the Vice President of VCCI, it is necessary in the immediate term to raise awareness within the hospital system and treatment facilities about the medical tourism model, while strengthening coordination between regulatory agencies and service providers. The two sides can share international experience to identify suitable approaches. Some simple services can be implemented first, while specialized treatment packages need to clearly define supply capacity, service contents, and specific costs.
VCCI strengthens its bridging role in cooperation between Vietnamese and Indian enterprises.
In addition, Vice President Bui Trung Nghia stated that the Vietnamese side is ready to connect GTTCI with relevant associations and units, including the private hospital sector, to further discuss practical needs. The two sides also agreed to establish a regular working mechanism between specialized focal points to enhance information exchange and coordinate the implementation of cooperation programs.
Through the discussions, both sides agreed to maintain regular exchanges and coordination between specialized focal points, strengthen connections with industry associations, enterprises, medical facilities, and research partners to clarify demands, supply capacity, and specific implementation plans for each sector. On that basis, trade promotion activities, market surveys, and investment connectivity will be gradually implemented according to an appropriate roadmap, aiming to realize cooperation opportunities in healthcare, services, and trade, thereby expanding substantive cooperation space between the business communities of Vietnam and India in the coming time.
