Lach Huyen Deepwater Port and Lach Huyen International Logistics Industrial Park Joint Stock Company (LHF) and PSA Vietnam Group (PSA) have signed an investment cooperation agreement in Lach Huyen Port Investment Joint Stock Company (LHP), marking an important step in the development of a new deepwater container terminal at Lach Huyen International Deepwater Port in Hai Phong.
Signed on June 30, 2026, this cooperation agreement will see the two companies jointly develop and operate four deepwater container berths , from berth 9 to berth 12 , with a designed handling capacity of 4.5 million TEU.
The project spans over 146 hectares and includes a total wharf length of up to 1,800 meters. Upon completion, the terminal will be capable of accommodating container ships with a deadweight tonnage of up to 200,000 DWT, enabling it to serve the latest generation of ultra-large container ships.
Construction of the first two piers is expected to begin in late 2026, and the entire project is projected to be completed by 2035.
Expanding Vietnam's role in regional maritime transport.
The partners aim to position Lach Huyen Port as an international transshipment hub within PSA's global port network.
The terminal will integrate digital technologies that enable the sharing of train schedules and operational data in real time, helping carriers and shippers improve operational efficiency and reduce vessel turnaround times.
Located along major international shipping routes, this new terminal is expected to strengthen Hai Phong's position as a regional logistics gateway and expand the city's role in international cargo transshipment.
The executives emphasized the long-standing partnership.
Nelson Quek, Managing Director for Southeast Asia at PSA International, said: "Vietnam is one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia, and this project reflects PSA's long-term commitment to the market. By adding a strategic deep-water port at Lach Huyen to our existing network, we are strengthening our 'From Node to Network' strategy and enhancing connectivity across the regional and global supply chain. Together with LHF, we look forward to building a resilient, future-ready gateway that creates lasting value for our customers and stakeholders."
Mr. Nguyen Vinh Hau, General Director of LHF, said: "The development of Lach Huyen Port is a significant milestone in our vision to make Northern Vietnam a leading industrial and logistics gateway in Asia. Through our cooperation with PSA, we combine global port expertise with in-depth knowledge of the local market and the advantages of the Hai Phong Free Trade Zone to develop world-class infrastructure, support future trade growth, attract investment, and strengthen Vietnam's role in the global supply chain. We look forward to building an efficient and sustainable gateway that will serve the needs of businesses for decades to come."
Ambassador Rajpal Singh of Singapore to Vietnam stated: "Singapore and Vietnam have a warm and long-standing relationship, bolstered by robust economic cooperation. Singapore has consistently been one of the largest foreign investors in Vietnam. Partnerships like this reflect the depth of mutual trust that both sides have carefully built over the years. We are very optimistic about Vietnam's growth potential and confident that Vietnam will achieve its ambitious development goals."
integrated free trade zone
This port project is part of LHF's larger Lach Huyen Free Trade Zone development plan, which includes the 752-hectare Xuan Cau Industrial and Free Trade Zone.
According to the company, this integrated development project will combine a deep-water port, an industrial park, and a free trade zone, creating Vietnam's first integrated free trade-port-industrial complex.
The project will provide multimodal connectivity, including road, rail, inland waterway, sea, and air. It will also include an international rail line directly connecting the complex to China, aiming to reduce logistics costs, shorten transit times, and support cross-border trade.
The companies said this collaboration marks the beginning of a long-term partnership aimed at expanding Vietnam's maritime infrastructure and strengthening the country's position in regional and global supply chains.
