Energy has long been considered the lifeblood of the economy and a prerequisite for ensuring national security, sustainable development as well as improving the quality of life. Currently, the world is strongly shifting to green growth models, circular economy and carbon emission reduction, Vietnam's energy issue is of profound strategic significance.
Mr. Vo Tan Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)
Speaking at the Forum "Energy Innovation 2025" on the afternoon of September 18, 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Vo Tan Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) - emphasized the importance of this issue. The National Assembly has just passed the Law on Science, Technology and Innovation, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW on ensuring national energy security, along with the implementation of the National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, vision 2045. According to Mr. Thanh, this is a meaningful event to spread the spirit of innovation, promote digital transformation, apply modern technology, and realize the goal of sustainable energy development.
Vietnam is making efforts to fulfill its commitment at COP26, with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. To achieve this goal, a fair and sustainable energy transition is considered an urgent requirement. However, the major challenge now is mobilizing financial resources, technology and international cooperation in the context of fierce global competition.
As a national organization representing the business community, VCCI is deeply aware that innovation in the energy sector is not only the task of the State but also the responsibility and opportunity of businesses.
In recent times, VCCI has coordinated with ministries, branches and international organizations to carry out many important activities. These include: Building a favorable business environment for clean energy and renewable energy projects; Connecting businesses with international technology partners, helping to access advanced knowledge and techniques; Promote green innovation through initiatives such as the Green Index, the Sustainable Business Network and many programs to support small and medium-sized enterprises in energy transition.
VCCI is committed to continuing to accompany the Government and the business community to spread the spirit of Resolution 70-NQ/TW, turning the resolution into concrete actions in each industry and each enterprise. “The Chamber wishes to strongly promote public-private cooperation, accelerate research, development and application of new energy technologies, as well as build clean energy business alliances to increase experience sharing, expand investment and participate more deeply in the global energy value chain,” Mr. Thanh affirmed.
Mr. Pham Viet Hong - Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Ministry of Science and Technology
Mr. Pham Viet Hong - Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Ministry of Science and Technology - also commented that Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW on ensuring national energy security and the National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045 are major orientations that create a new legal foundation and driving force for the energy transition and sustainable development of the country.
“In the face of the requirement to both ensure energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to implement the ‘net zero’ commitment by 2050, Vietnam needs to make greater use of science, technology and innovation, combined with industrial development policies and financial policies. These are important factors to promote the transition to green, clean and sustainable energy,” Mr. Pham Viet Hong affirmed.
