Speaking at the Forum, Vice Chairman of VCCI Vo Tan Thanh assessed that the Forum "Improving intellectual property policies - Motivation for innovative enterprises" organized by Business Forum Magazine in coordination with relevant units is a topic that is both topical and strategic, because intellectual property is becoming one of the factors determining the competitiveness of enterprises and the national economy.
Overview of the Forum “Improving intellectual property policies – Motivation for innovative businesses”
According to VCCI Vice Chairman Vo Tan Thanh, in recent years, we have witnessed the fact that innovation, intellectual property and science and technology are increasingly playing a central role in the development process.
He believes that businesses that want to go far, want to reach out to regional and world markets must rely on the foundation of intellectual property - which can be trademarks, patents, copyrights, industrial designs or business secrets.
However, VCCI Vice Chairman Vo Tan Thanh acknowledged that the situation of intellectual property rights violations in our country is still complicated and causes many consequences such as: Counterfeit goods, fake goods, poor quality goods are rampant, causing great losses to legitimate businesses; Infringement of trademarks, copyrights and unfair competition reduces consumer confidence; Many businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, do not have enough resources to protect their intellectual property.
“According to international studies, the rate of intellectual property rights violations in Vietnam remains high compared to many countries in the region. This not only causes economic damage but also affects the national reputation, investment environment and the international integration process of Vietnam,” said VCCI Vice Chairman Vo Tan Thanh.

VCCI Vice Chairman Vo Tan Thanh spoke at the Forum
According to VCCI Vice Chairman Vo Tan Thanh, in recent times, the State has issued and gradually improved the legal framework on intellectual property. Vietnam has also made very high international commitments on intellectual property protection when joining the WTO and new-generation free trade agreements such as CPTPP, EVFTA, RCEP, etc. This is an important driving force for us to improve the legal system, approaching international standards.
However, in addition to the progress, the management and enforcement of intellectual property rights still have some limitations such as: Monitoring, detection and handling of violations are not really timely, lacking synchronous coordination between functional agencies; Sanctions are not yet deterrent enough; Awareness of businesses and consumers about intellectual property protection is still limited; The mechanism to support businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, in accessing legal tools and professional advice has not yet met actual needs.
“Therefore, the current requirement is to continue to improve policies, increase enforcement effectiveness and build a close coordination mechanism between management agencies, associations, businesses, lawyers and the media”, shared VCCI Vice President Vo Tan Thanh.
At the same time, he also said that today's Discussion Forum is important because it will be a place for us to analyze and discuss from many perspectives: Legal perspective, from experts and lawyers with experience in handling typical violations; Business perspective, those who directly face the problem of counterfeit goods in the market; Association and media perspective, with the role of spreading, raising social awareness and supporting brand protection.

The Forum attracted a large number of businesses to attend
He also believes that the presentations at the Forum will point out bottlenecks in practice, and at the same time propose many practical solutions to: Prevent and limit acts of intellectual property infringement; Improve the legal corridor, in line with the international integration process; Create motivation for businesses to invest more in innovation, considering intellectual property as a strategic tool for sustainable development.
Along with that is contributing a practical perspective on the prospect of building policies to protect and promote the value of intellectual property of businesses with digital applications and high digital technology content in the context that Vietnam is still in the stage of perfecting the legal framework on intellectual property, with the integration of new technologies such as AI and blockchain.
In particular, in the context that our Party and State have issued important resolutions such as: Resolution 57-NQ/TW on science - technology development and innovation; Resolution 68-NQ/TW on developing the private economy into an important driving force of the economy; Linking intellectual property policies with the implementation of these resolutions will contribute to creating a “double push” for Vietnamese enterprises in the digital age.
VCCI Vice Chairman Vo Tan Thanh also highly appreciated the efforts of the Business Forum Magazine in initiating and organizing today's Forum. This is a very practical forum, contributing to raising social awareness, while creating opportunities for management agencies, experts, lawyers, associations and the business community to dialogue and find solutions to the problems being raised.
