Vietnam’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for July 2026 is estimated to have increased by 1.2% month-on-month and 14.5% year-on-year, according to data released by the National Statistics Office on August 3.

Collectively, for the first seven months of 2026, the IIP rose by 11.4% compared to the same period last year, marking the highest seven-month growth rate in many years.

Contributing to this overall growth, the manufacturing sector in July 2026 increased by 15.0% year-on-year; water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment activities rose by 14.9%; electricity production and distribution increased by 12.5%; and the mining industry rose by 10.4%.

In the seven-month period, the IIP for the manufacturing sector grew by 12.0% (compared to a 10.1% increase in the same period of 2025), contributing 9.3 percentage points to the overall growth. The mining industry rose by 6.6% (compared to a 2.4% decrease in the same period of 2025), contributing 1.0 percentage point. Electricity production and distribution grew by 9.9% (vs. 4.8% in 2025), contributing 0.9 percentage points. Meanwhile, water supply and waste management increased by 10.0% (vs. 10.1% in 2025), contributing 0.2 percentage points.

The National Statistics Office report noted that the IIP for several key Level-II industries increased during the first seven months of 2026, including: metals; motor vehicles; beverages; other non-metallic mineral products; other transport equipment; furniture; electronics, computers, and optical products; fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment); and chemicals and chemical products, among others.

Regarding the industrial performance of various localities, the report indicated growth in all 34 provinces and cities during the first seven months of 2026.

Some localities achieved high IIP growth rates thanks to the manufacturing and electricity production sectors. Conversely, a few localities saw lower growth rates due to slow performance or declines in manufacturing, mining, and electricity production.

In addition to sectoral indices, the output of key industrial products also clearly reflected the consumption demand and supply capacity of the economy. Specifically, in the first seven months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, motorbike production increased by 31.1%; laptops by 30.7%; rolled steel by 24.7%; automobiles by 24.3%; processed seafood by 21.2%; refined sugar by 18.5%; bar and angle steel by 16.8%; beer by 13.9%; and crude oil extraction by 12.7%.
