Vietnam always treasures its relations with Cambodia and desires to foster the ties towards strengthening political trust and mutually-beneficial sustainable cooperation, said National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan while meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen in Hanoi on October 5.

The top Vietnamese legislator highlighted the significance of PM Hun Sen’s visit and the signing of a number of important documents, including two legal documents recognizing the outcome of the demarcation of and marker planting along the land border between the two countries.

The results lay an important foundation for both nations to move forward and finalize all the boundary delimitation and border marker planting work for the building of a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

The Vietnamese NA will consider and approve the two legal documents on border delimitation and border marker planting between Vietnam and Cambodia at the coming session, Ngan told her guest.

She asked PM Hun Sen to continue offering favourable conditions for the overseas Vietnamese community in Cambodia to enjoy a stable life and legal status.

The Vietnamese NA leader hailed the sound relations between the two legislatures and voiced her hope that Cambodia will support and coordinate with Vietnam when the latter undertakes the Chair of ASEAN and Chair of the 41st ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA 41) in 2020.

For his part, PM Hun Sen told his host that electricity grids and telephone lines had been installed in areas along the common border, facilitating the daily life of local residents.

He suggested intensifying investment and trade ties between the two countries, noting that the current US$5 billion bilateral trade value is still far below their full potential.

The Cambodian PM thanked Vietnam for helping his nation with human resources training, and expressed his confidence that the two NAs will soon adopt the two documents recognizing the completed 84% workload in land border demarcation and marker planting.
