Vietnam has reported no new coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, keeping the country’s cumulative tally unchanged at 328, according to the Ministry of Health in its May 31 morning update.

Vietnam has gone 45 straight days without new community infections 

As many as 279 out of the 328 confirmed cases have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospital, making up 85% of the total. 

The remaining 49 cases are being quarantined and receiving treatment at 9 centrally- and locally-run health facilities, with most of them in stable health condition.

Nine of the active cases have tested negative once and 17 cases have tested negative twice. 

The 1-year-old boy, who was confirmed to have carried the SARS-CoV-2 virus on May 30, is being monitored by doctors at the Hai Duong provincial Hospital of Tropical Diseases. 

The patient is said to take in food normally and show no flu-like symptoms such as a high temperature, a cough or breathing difficulties, but has loose stools twice or three times a day.

According to the Ministry of Health, Vietnam has gone through 45 consecutive days without new locally transmitted infections. 

Imported cases, i.e. those returning from overseas, especially epidemic hit countries, are quarantined immediately after they land in Vietnam to ensure suspected cases are unable to spread the SARS-CoV-2 virus throughout the community.

Experts warn the risk of community infection in Vietnam remains high as more foreign specialists, highly skilled workers and Vietnamese citizens stranded overseas due to the coronavirus pandemic are allow to enter Vietnam.
